Mobility aids for doctoral students

Financial Aids Doctoral School

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid offers various pre-doctoral grants for participation in scientific conferences and events, and/or research stays for doctoral students.

The requirements for applying for mobility grants are available in the terms and conditions of each call for applications.

Each call for applications is independent of the others, so if you are a beneficiary of any of them and/or have a pre-doctoral contract, please check whether they are compatible.

  • Doctoral School

    Call for financial aids of the Doctoral School for participation in conferences and doctoral students mobility

    With this call, the Doctoral School supports the dissemination and internationalization of doctoral scientific results through participation in conferences and scientific events, and by conducting short research stays for its doctoral students.

    These activities are considered an essential part of the training process for doctoral students as a contribution to the quality of doctoral theses and the internationalization of doctoral programs.

    There are two types of financial aids:

    Modality 1 Financial aids to fund expenses derived from participation in scientific-technical conferences
    Modality 2 Financial aids to fund expenses for short research stays outside of Spain

     

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                

    Activities in both modalities must be completed between October 1 and September 30 of the current academic year. If the activity begins before September 30 and ends after that date, it will also be considered.

    Which PhD Programs participate on this financial aid call?

    According to Annex I of the call, the following PhD programs participate on this call:

    • PhD in Social Sciences
    • PhD in Biomedical Science and Technology
    • PhD in ComputerScience and Technology
    • PhD in Law
    • PhD in Advanced Studies in Human Rights
    • PhD in Library Science: Archives and Libraries in the Digital Environment
    • PhD in Economics
    • PhD in Business and Finance
    • PhD in Economic History
    • PhD in Humanities
    • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation
    • PhD in Mathematical Engineering
    • PhD in Media Research
    • PhD in Fluid Mechanics
    • PhD in Plasma Physics and Nuclear Fusion
    • PhD in Signal Processing and Communications Engineering/Multimedia and Communications

    What requirements do I need to meet to participate?

    • Be enrolled at UC3M in one of the doctoral programs listed in Annex I for the 2024/25 academic year and be up to date with tuition fees.
    • Have passed the last annual doctoral evaluation.
    • Have not defended your doctoral thesis prior to participating.
    • Have a current account with a bank in Spain or the SEPA zone.

    How do I apply for the financial aid?

    You must do it through the following application form

    To access the form, you need to log-in with your uc3m student credentials:

    • uc3m username: 100xxxxxx
    • Password: your uc3m email password

    You will also need to attach the required documents for your participation, depending on the modality of the financial aid:

    • Modality 1 (Participation in Conferences):

    - Descriptive report of the activities to be performed, with the approval of your thesis advisor/s, according to this format: Memoria descriptiva
    - Conference documentation (focus and purpose, program, participants). When the conference is online and does not require travel, the registration fee must be indicated.
    - Letter of acceptance of the paper, presentation, or poster. 
    - Commitment to reference uc3m in communications, documents or material to be presented at the conference, according to this model: Compromiso de referencia a la UC3M

    • Modality 2 (Short-term research stays):

    - Descriptive report of the activities to be performed, with the approval of your thesis advisor/s, according to this format: Memoria descriptiva
    - Invitation letter from the host institution
    - History of the research group/center/university where the stay will take place

    Can I apply for more than one modality, or apply for two aids in one modality?

    Yes; if you apply for more than one aid, or apply for both modalities, you must complete and submit your application through the application form for each one of them.

    Please, bear in mind that the PhD in Law will only fund one activity per applicant for Modality 1: Participation in Conferences. Furthermore, the PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation will only fund applications for Modality 1: Participation in Conferences. Applications for Modality 2: Short-term research stays outside of Spain, will not be considered.

    When and how will I receive payment of the awarded grant?

    The deadline for submitting proof of the activity is one month from the completion of the activity, or one month from the award decision for previously completed activities.

    The grant payment will be made to the bank account of any entity based in Spain or the SEPA zone. Payments will not be made to accounts outside the SEPA zone or to third parties.

  • Santander Bank
    Logotipo Banco Santander Universidades

    Call for predoctoral financial aids of Santander Bank

    Uc3m, within the framework of the agreement signed with Banco Santander, annually offers financial aids so that doctoral students can carry out research stays, as essential part of their training process and a significant factor that contributes to improving the quality of doctoral theses.

    Number of grants: 21 (one per Ph.D. program)

    Grant amount: 2.000€

    Very important: You must fill out two different application forms

    Uc3m form (upload the following documents):                 Santander Bank "ayudas predoctorales" application form          

                                                                           - Descriptive report of the activities to be carried out

    - Invitation letter from the host centre

    - Proof of residence in Spain (NIE in the case of non-Spanish nationals)

    Failure to submit the application using the University's form, or failure to register on the Santander Bank Platform within the required deadlines, will result in the applicant's exclusion from this call for aids.

  • UC3M Own Program

    UC3M Own Research and Transfer Program Aids (only if you have a predoctoral contract with UC3M)  │OPEN FOR SUBMISSION

    The UC3M Own Research and Transfer Program offers aids for researchers’ stays who already have a predoctoral contract with UC3M Departments or Research Institutes (full-time position as “Personal Docente e Investigador (PDI)” or “PDI en formación”)

    Pre-doctoral researchers’ satys:

    SPECIFIC PROVISIONS FOR TYPE B 

    Those who meet the following requirements may be eligible for the aids: 

    • Be enrolled in a UC3M doctoral programme.
    • Have a full-time affiliation with UC3M as “Personal Docente e Investigador (PDI)” or “PDI en formación” through a contract in one of its Departments or Research Institutes, the duration of which must be at least from the last day of the application submission period until ten days after the end of the stay. 
    • Not have previously received any mobility aid from the UC3M's Own Research Programme.
