Description
This group investigates photonic and electronic devices and systems for communications and industrial applications. Their contributions are relevant in the characterisation of different display technologies and the manufacturing of directional circuits for high-end screens. This group does a great deal of work in the field of low cost optical sensors in industrial applications and in Rehabilitation Technology. In this area we should point out the development of several prototypes, such as liquid level sensors for critical environments, an electro-optic system based on liquid crystal dispersion, which acts as an “intelligent blind”, a portable optoelectronic colour recognition sensor. Furthermore, sensor networks are being developed that use the devices that have been developed. In the communications sector, devices based on optical fibre technology with amplification and integrated optics for use in transparent optical networks are being developed.
Lines of research
- Electro-optic Devices and Applications: Optical and electrical characterization of devices (liquid crystals, electrochromic materials…)
- Advanced Instrumentation and Sensors: Development of advanced instrumentation, fiber optic sensors and their integration into WDM networks.
- Photonic devices for optical networks: design and characterization of integrated optical devices.
- Health care technologies: Research and prototypes in technology related to health and wellness
