Fundamental Rights on the Street Legal Clinic, in collaboration with the Co-existence Municipal Program in Getafe, 5th Edition. March-May 2010.
This is a teaching innovation project that has been in place since the 2004-05 school-year in the framework of the optional course Fundamental Rights, in the Law Licenciatura (Spanish 4-year undergraduate program) in the Universidad Carlos de Madrid, on the Getafe and Colmenarejo Campuses. In this project, students in the Theory and History of Human Rights course, after having acquired precise theoretical knowledge and having carried out teaching-learning dynamics in class, develop a program of visits to secondary learning centers in the area to explain issues related to the challenges Human Rights face. The tutors for these students are not only the University-course professors, but also graduate students from the “Bartolomé de las Casas” Human Rights Institute. These activities are carried out within the framework of the Programa de Convivencia Municipal del Ayuntamiento de Getafe (Co-existence Municipal Program in Getafe).
Legal clinic on the Practice of the Universal Human Rights System, 4th Edition, support for the latest legal action of the Spanish Pro-Human Rights Association in the National High Court, February-June 2009.
Students of the Fundamental Rights Master’s degree organized by the Human Rights Institute “Bartolomé de las Casas” work with the legal team of APDHE on real cases being dealt with at the National High Court and that are related to the principle of universal justice. As a closing event, students present the results of their work in a seminar in the IDHBC.
Legal clinic on the Practice of Applying the European System for the Protection of Human Rights, 4th edition development of follow up actions for the execution of the National Plan for Human Rights.
In the 2009/2010 course, participants in this Clinic will carry out the follow-up of the National Plan for Human Rights and will have the opportunity to make suggestions through the professors forming a part of the Plan’s Follow-up Commission.
Inter-American System Clinic, 4th Edition, developmental procedure and investigation of cases before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, May-June 2010.
The aim of this activity is to familiarize students with the practical use of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights through work with real cases. This Clinic is developed in collaboration with Professor Felipe González Morales, current Commissioner in the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). In this Clinic, students will be working jointly with the Professor in the revision of pending cases before the IACHR, carrying out research and preparing documents.
Education and Human Rights Clinic, 4th Edition, research on the effectiveness of the equality and non-discrimination norms in relation to HIV-positive persons. May-June 2010.
This clinic is carried out in the context of the Master in Fundamental Rights, organized by the Human Rights Institute “Bartolomé de las Casas”. Its main goal is familiarizing students with didactic techniques for the informal teaching of fundamental rights outside of a legal setting, through two kinds of activities: 1) Preparation and teaching of a Seminar on Fundamental Rights for persons living with HIV/AIDS, members of NGO’S and professionals carrying out their activities in this field; 2) Collaborate with professors and tutors in the Clinic for Fundamental Rights on the street in the Law and Humanities undergraduate studies in the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. More specifically, go to the classes in which these undergraduate students will teach in various high schools in Getafe, within the framework of the Programa de Convivencia Municipal del Ayuntamiento de Getafe (Co-existence Municipal Program in Getafe).
Legal Clinic for persons with HIV/AIDS. January-December 2010.
This project is carried out by the “Bartolomé de las Casas” Human Rights Institute in collaboration with the HIV-AIDS State Coordinator, CESIDA, subsidized by the Ministry of Health and Consumption through the AIDS National Plan, in place since 2007. The program is built on three axes: advising, training and action. Moreover, apart from offering legal assistance to HIV-positive persons, teaching programs have been developed in the Law and Audiovisual Communication undergraduate programs, and also legal reports serving as a foundation to the entity’s claims.
