The Governing Board approved the Teacher Training Framework Plan 2018-2023. This Plan is structured in three strategic axes: didactic axis, research axis and transversal axis. Based on this framework, the university is working on the design of training and professional development plans to improve the performance of the Teaching and Research Staff at any stage of their professional career.
Among its objectives are:
- Establish multidimensional training plans that encourage the continuous development of all Teaching and Research Staff at all stages of their career.
- To design mentoring plans for the first years of their professional career.
- Develop plans to foster the motivation of teaching and research staff.
- Train and support teaching and research staff in the digital transformation process.
- Promote the continuous improvement of teaching and research staff based on the evaluation of their activity.

Focus Group for Teaching and Research Staff Training Plan
On April 25 and 26, 2017, University Carlos III de Madrid hosted two focus groups on the Getafe and Leganés campuses. More than 50 professors participated in each event with the idea of further defining the basic skills framework to create a training plan for teaching and research staff.
In these sessions, the Metaplan methodology was used and participants consisted of professors from all profesional categories in the University.
ODISEA
- University Carlos III de Madrid is working on a group named ODISEA with other institutions ( IMDEA AGUA, IMDEA MATERIALES, UNIVERSIDAD AUTÓNOMA DE MADRID) to design a development plan for researchers at each stage of their careers.
This group was created after conducting a co-ordination meeting for EURAXESS Spain in September 2016 in a VITAE workshop: “Exploring career development support for Researchers within the EURAXESS network”.
The goal is to design a common stategy for a development plan for each stage of researchers’ professional career (R1to R4).
Analyze the research staff in every institution.
- Determine training needs at every stage of the researcher’s career.
- Identify existing resources in each institution
- Establish a development plan and standardize minimum skills common to each stage
- Determine training resource needs (training, mentoring, information, events, etc.)
- Publicize and improve access to existing resources.
- Determine how to measure the impact of career development activities.
Framework Plan for Faculty Training
On 29 November, the Governing Board approved the Framework Plan for Faculty Training 2018-2023. This Plan is structured in three strategic axes: didactic axis, research axis and transversal axis. It introduces, as innovation, the development of a training profile for full-time Faculty of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
It has been set up a Committee for the Faculty Training, made up of Vice-President for Faculty, Vice-President for Scientific Policy, Vice-President for Strategy and Digital Education and Vice-President for Studies, in addition to trade union representatives.
The Committee has started to work on the implementation of different training actions for Faculty. The first and most innovative are the courses for improving teaching tools in English.
