Professor César Huete Ruiz de Lira

Industrial Engineer from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), Ciudad Real (2002-2007), and PhD from UCLM-UNED (2008-2012). In 2007, I worked at Iberdrola for Empresarios Agrupados until, thanks to an FPU-2007 grant-contract, I joined academia in 2008. During my postdoctoral stage, I worked at various institutions: one year at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) under a research project (2012-2013), two years at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in the United States (2013-2015), and subsequently returned to UC3M with a Juan de la Cierva talent-attraction contract (2015-2016).

Since joining UC3M in 2015, I have been part of the Fluid Mechanics Group, focusing on the study of high-speed compressible flows, reactive flows, and high-energy-density flows, with a predominantly theoretical and fundamental approach. Notably, the last two PhD theses I supervised explored the interaction of hypersonic shock waves with turbulent flows and the stability of accretion and magnetohydrodynamic waves in the context of inertial confinement fusion. I have also investigated hydrogen safety concerning potential deflagration and detonation risks. Currently, my research focuses on the dynamics of thermonuclear burn waves in the MagLiF context. This work, characterized by extensive international collaboration with top-tier institutions (Stanford University, University of California San Diego, University of Rochester, Naval Research Laboratory, among others), has resulted in over 30 scientific publications. In connection with these topics, I have led 7 research projects funded by private entities (Fundación Iberdrola España, Fundación BBVA-Red Leonardo) and public organizations (CM-UC3M and AEI-MICINN), as well as technology transfer projects (INTA-UC3M).

During my predoctoral (UCLM-UNED) and postdoctoral (UCSD, UC3M) stages, I combined research activities with teaching in subjects related to my field of expertise. I have supervised over 40 Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, 2 doctoral theses, and I am currently supervising 2 PhD students. Additionally, I have served on the examination committees of 7 PhD defenses at Rovira i Virgili University (twice), the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the University of Paris-Saclay, the University of Marseille, and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. I have held various administrative roles within the university, including serving as an international academic tutor, a member of the Academic Committee for the Bachelor’s in Energy Engineering, the Program for Research and Transfer Committee, and the Department Recruitment Committee. I have been Deputy Director of the Department of Thermal and Fluid Engineering for 3 years, with responsibility for the academic activities of the Fluid Mechanics Group. Additionally, I have 9 years of experience as a member of ANECA’s Evaluation Committee, assessing academic curricula for Engineering Schools and collaborating on the ACREDITA and SIC programs for EURO-ACE and EURO-INF certificates. Specifically, I have participated in evaluating more than 30 academic programs from 8 different Spanish universities.
