Professor Fernando Díaz de María
Fernando Díaz-de-María received the Telecommunication Engineering degree and the Ph.D. degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain, in 1991 and 1996, respectively. From Oct. 1996, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Signal Processing & Communications, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), Spain. He has held several offices in both his Department and his University.
Since its creation more than a decade ago, he is the leader of the Group of Multimedia Processing (GPM), which focuses its research activity on the general field of speech, audio, image and video processing, especially on computer vision and speech recognition. In this field he has acted as supervisor of 12 Ph.D. Thesis and more than 50 Bachelor & Master Thesis. He has deserved several awards, including the “Best Paper Award of International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) 2011, September 11-14, Brussels, Belgium”. He has published more than 40 JCR journal papers, mostly including Q1 journals (such as IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, Pattern Recognition, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, or IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing), and more than 30 CORE international conference papers. He has led many National projects financed in competitive calls (such as “Robust Computer Vision Techniques and its Application to the Intelligent Transport Systems for improving Road Safety, Mobility and Traffic Management”, "Annotation, Indexing and Coding of User Generated Content”, or “NowCasting") and R&D contracts financed by companies (such as “Computer Vision Techniques for In Flight Refuelling”, “Algorithms for Quality Enhancement in Video – Surveillance Applications” or “Consultancy and Algorithmic Design for Video Coding”). Moreover, he has coordinated postgraduate courses, has organized international workshops, and has been member of scientific committees of International Congresses.
