I am an Industrial Engineer (1996) from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and PhD, also from UC3M, in the PhD program in Industrial Technologies (2002), obtaining the Extraordinary PhD award. In 1997, I joined as an Assistant in the Department of Systems Engineering and Automation where I did my doctoral thesis in the field of mobile robotics. In 2002, I joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering where I am Full Professor since December 2020.

My main research lines focus on road transportation and more specifically, on advanced vehicle dynamics, vehicle dynamic behavior improvement systems, Kalman filters, sensor fusion, robust observers, vehicle safety, MR dampers, bus structures, networked control systems, fault detection and isolation (FDI), among others.

The total number of research projects in which I have participated has been 22: 2 European projects, 14 national projects and 6 regional projects. I have been main researcher of 5 National Projects. In addition, I have participated in more than 10 technology transfer contracts. I have published more than 80 research articles in high impact conferences and journals with more than 1100 citations and an h-index of 18. In 2019 and 2021 I was among the top 2% of the best scientists in the world within the field “Automobile Design & Engineering” according to the Stanford Top 2% Scientists Ranking. I have supervised 6 PhD theses, one of which obtained the award for the best PhD thesis granted by the Ibero-American Federation of Mechanical Engineering and being a finalist for the 2024 IEEE ITSS Best PhD Dissertation Nomination award.

I have been a member of the editorial board of two international journals and I have belonged to technical committees of 5 international congresses. Currently I belong to the editorial board of the journal NonLinear Dynamics. I am a reviewer for more than 20 international journals, most of them belonging to the JCR.

During my career, I have combined research, teaching and management tasks. I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses related to my area of knowledge. I have directed more than 100 Final Projects.

For years I have been an evaluator of research projects for Agencia Estatal de Investigación. From 2012 to 2021, I have been member of the assessment committee for the curricular evaluation process to obtain the accreditation for access to the university teaching bodies of Senior Lecturer and Professor. Field C10. Mechanical and Navigational Engineering. ANECA. (February 2019 - March 2021). Nowadays, I am member of the specific commission for Engineering and Architecture for the programme asssessment, accreditation and certification of AQU Catalunya and member of commission for the follow-up of Official Degrees of Madri+d foundation. Finally, I have held the following institutional responsibilities: Deputy Director of Research in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (May 2021-October 2022), Director of the Degree in Mechanical Engineering (May 2012-November 2020), Secretary of the Institute for the Safety of Automotive Vehicles (ISVA) (May 2009-May 2012) and Deputy Director of the UC3M-BOMBARDIER Master in Railway Engineering (May 2014-September 2015).
