Professor Mirella Romero Recio
Mirella Romero Recio is Professor of Ancient History at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Geography and History from the Universidad Complutense, where she obtained her PhD in 1999. She furthered her studies in different international research centres, namely England, Italy, France. She has directed several research projects, including “Reception and influence of Pompeii and Herculaneum in Spain and Latin America” (PGC2018-093509-B-I00, MICINN/AEI/ERDF/EU). She is currently co-directing the research project “Modernised antiquity: Greece and Rome at the service of the idea of civilisation, order and progress in Spain and Latin America” (PID2021-123745NB-I00, MICINN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, the ERDF). She has published more than eighty papers, four books as the main author, edited another three, and co-edited seven books. All this research and academic activity were recognised by six-year terms (4 sexenios) and several prizes. She was awarded two times by Virgen del Carmen award for the best Naval History study in 1995 and 1999, and by UC3M and Banco Santander Excellence Award in 2010. She is an Academica correspondiente of the Real Academia de la Historia, and Director of Instituto de Historiografía “Julio Caro Baroja”.
