Mauricio Terrones - Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Técnica (MÉXICO)

Dr. Mauricio Terrones obtained his B.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics at the Iberian American University in Mexico City and earned his PhD in Chemical Physics at the University of Sussex, UK. He worked there as a postdoctoral research fellow and later in the Fullerene Science Centre, through a project funded by UC Santa Barbara and the Royal Society. He has hold different positions at the University of London, the Max Planck Institute at Stuttgart (Germany), the University of Lovain (Belgium), the International Center for Young Scientists (ICYS) at the National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan and has been a level for 10 years III Full Professor (Tenure) at the Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica IPICYT (San Luis Potosí, México).

Dr. Terrones is currently full Professor at the Physics Department of the Penn Sate University (USA) and distinguished Professor at the Exotic Nanocarbon Research Center, Shinshu University, in Japan. His research areas include the synthesis and application of new carbon nanostructures and the study of self-assembly.

He has presented his research in more than 90 international conferences in England, Austria, USA, Hungary, Belgium, Germany and Japan, and has co-authored more than 260 publications in prestigious international journals, such as Nature and Science.

Dr. Terrones has been awarded several prizes among which the UNESCO-Javed Huasain Prize for Young Scientists, the Japan Carbon Award for Innovative Research by the Japan Carbon Society, TANSO, and the TWAS Prize in Engineering Science by the Academy of Sciences of the Developing World.
