Azzedine Boukerche - University of Ottawa (CANADÁ)
Azzedine Boukerche is currently a Full Professor and holds a Canada Research Chair position in Wireless and Mobile Networking and Large Scale Distributed Systems at the University of Ottawa. He is the Founding Director of PARADISE Research Laboratory at uOttawa, and the Founding Director of the NSERC DIVA Strategic Research Centre, the first network ever hosted at uOttawa.
Dr. Boukerche’s scientific track record gives testimony to a meritorious career. He has authored nearly 550+ peer-reviewed journal and conference publications and serves on the editorial board of some of the main and prestigious periodicals in the field of communications and computer networks. In addition, his curriculum of scientific service includes diverse chairing roles on various IEEE/ACM International conferences and workshops, including key venues for the diffusion of computer science and networking scientific results.
He has been awarded with the Ontario Distinguished Researcher Award, the Ontario Early Researcher Award (previously known as Premier of Ontario Research Excellence Award (PREA)), the Canada Research Chair, the G. S. Glinski Award for Excellence in Research, the IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Speaker, and the IEEE Computer Society Meritorious Service Award, amongst other prizes and recognitions of his contributions to the advancement of computer science, and wireless networking and communication.Dr. Boukerche is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering- a membership exclusive to exemplary individuals in the profession of engineering.
In addition to his research and administrative activities, he has dedicated a major effort to education, including training graduate students and post-doctoral fellows as well as formal classroom teaching for graduate students in the fields of wireless ad hoc and sensor networks, distributed interactive simulation systems and vehicular networks.
Research stay at UC3M: TELEMATIC ENGINEERING
Project: During his stay in Madrid, Dr. Boukerche will be focusing on areas such as vehicular sensor networks, mobile ad hoc networks, mobile and pervasive computing, large-scale distributed systems. As well as pursuing his own scientific interests and sharing his expertise, Dr. Boukerche will develop synergies and create further collaborations between UC3M, IMDEA Institute and his home University.
The main objective of this project is to develop new technology to integrate sensors in vehicular networks in order to monitor surrounding events to enable the proper function of VANETs based applications that will make better use of sensor data to ensure safety, security and comfort to the driver and his passengers. To this end, Dr. Boukerche will be investigating the design of the development of high performance hardware and software platforms for cognitive gateways in vehicular sensor networks. In addition, new secure data and mobility management, service discovery and localization based schemes for VANETs will be developed to cope with the high mobility of vehicles and the volume of collected data expected in such networks.
Stay Period: JUN 12 - AGO 12 and JAN 13- MAR 13
