Abstract:
In this activity, we will showcase the research activities of the Non-linear Solid Mechanics (NSM) group at UC3M as an expedition to the strange realities of the world of materials. We will show how materials deform and break under different extreme conditions, such as temperatures below zero degrees or high-velocity impacts. The attendees will have the opportunity to see a virtual recreation of the microstructure of a printed metallic material, as well as see how microstructural changes affect material properties, such as magnetism.
Theme:
When an unconventional material was found beneath the surface of the UC3M Leganes, the immediate conclusion was that it had been intentionally buried. When the material is discovered to be futuristic, an expedition is sent out in hopes of finding the source and science behind it. While the NSM group discovers flaws in the material, the group discovers more than they ever wanted to know.
Speakers:
- Vishnu Ambikadevi Rajasekharan, doctoral student at the Department of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis at UC3M.
- Juan Carlos Nieto-Fuentes, MSCA Conex-Plus fellow, Department of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis at UC3M.
- Thomas Virazels, doctoral student in the Department of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis at UC3M.
- Pilar Fernández-Pisón, doctoral student in the Department of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis at UC3M.
