Research stay at UC3M: DEPARTMENT OF HUMANITIES: GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY AND ART
Project: The Normative Foundations of an Information Society (NFIS).Normative questions crucial for human welfare have been a research priority for some time in biomedical and environmental contexts. However, the equally important, normative framework, indispensable for dealing with the new challenges posed by information and communication technologies (ICTs), still needs to be developed. This is the task to which the NFIS project intends to contribute. It is a task that is feasible, as work in the aforementioned contexts proves. It is also a pressing task, because ICTs play an ever-growing role in individual and social welfare. ICTs continue to bring enormous benefits and opportunities to an increasing number of people. However, they have also greatly outpaced our understanding of their legal and ethical impact and long-term implications, while raising significant normative challenges. The NFIS project intends to improve the normative framework within which these challenges can be addressed successfully.
