Study Abroad C3IS
It is a program that allows international students to study aspects of Spanish culture in both Spanish and English, combining their own subjects with UC3M's undergraduate and humanities courses.
Founded more than 20 years ago to satisfy the academic requirements of some of the best North American universities, such as: Boston College, University of California, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, Marist College Madrid, Vassar-Wesleyan Program in Madrid, Washington University and organizations such as CIEE, IES and Accent.
Academic Information
Study Abroad C3IS is a Hispanic studies program designed to offer international students the opportunity to study aspects of Spanish culture. In this sense, two study paths are proposed: one in Spanish and the other in English, integrating subjects from the Carlos III International School (International Business Program and Engineering Program for International Students) with subjects from UC3M's Undergraduate and Humanities programs.
Choose your path and enroll in the subjects that interest you and become an expert in Spanish culture!
Learn Spanish
Both the English and Spanish tracks offer beginners, advanced and proficiency courses in the Spanish language. Here you have all the information about the Spanish Language Classes.
Also, remember that in order to be able to take an undergraduate course in Spanish you must have a minimum level of B2.1 in Spanish (high advanced).
Humanities Courses
In addition to the courses that we present in the Spanish and English tracks of our academic program, you can take a look at our undergraduate Humanities course offerings through the following link.
Disability and Specific Learning Needs
If you are a student with a disability or with specific educational support needs, please enroll in our program, before the following dates:
- Full course and first term: July 15th
- Second semester: December 15th
We will not be able to guarantee the full deployment of the necessary support if you apply after the deadline.
Rules
1) Excused absences:
Shall be considered excused absences exclusively those due to the following reasons:
- Illness or medical visit. Requires an official medical certificate or equivalent with the coordinator's approval.
- Exams. Absence from exams. Requires only official documentary proof.
- Unavoidable administrative formalities (obtaining or renewing official documents, appointments at Public Administrations, etc.) Requires official proof of the appointment.
- Scheduled field trips. Requires prior communication from the Coordinator of the Hispanic Studies program.
- Force majeure.
The faculty will monitor class attendance on a daily basis.
From now on, the students themselves will be responsible for sending their absences directly to the professors, as long as they have the approval of their US University program director/coordinator at C3IS. Without the approval of the program director/coordinator, the justification is not valid.
The justification may be sent in writing or by e-mail.
2) Unexcused absences:
Unexcused absences are all absences not included in the previous section.
- The first unexcused absence is not counted.
- Students will see their final grade for the course reduced by 0.3 points if they have a second unexcused absence.
- If a third unexcused absence occurs, the reduction in the final grade will be 0.8 points (0.5 points corresponding to the third unexcused absence and the 0.3 points previously associated with the second unexcused absence).
- The fourth unexcused absence of a student in a subject will result in the final grade of Failure, although the student may continue to attend class if he/she wishes to do so.
Those teachers who detect a case of students with three unexcused absences must inform the Study Abroad C3IS coordinator, who in turn will inform the coordinator of the corresponding program.
