The Department of Library and Information Science and Documentation of UC3M is a reference for the search, formulation, and dissemination of answers to the demands posed by society in information management through its teaching, research, and outreach activities. It frequently occupies positions in international rankings such as the QS or the Shanghai ranking. It obtained in 2015 international accreditation as a member of the iSchool consortium, an active network that leads and promotes the field of Information and Documentation at a global level. It has three attached research groups: ACRÓPOLIS, LEMI, and TECNODOC.

The department teaches a transversal course in all the undergraduate degrees of the University: Information Skills.
