The Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Chemical Engineering (MSECE), formed by a team of about 100 people, has a long history of teaching and research activity, recognized and proven experience at national and international level in R&D projects, training and consulting in the field of materials.

The MSECE is made up of five official research groups recognized by the Carlos III University of Madrid: "Behaviour in Materials Service", "Polymeric Composite Materials and Interfaces", "Polymers and Composites", "Synthesis and Processing of Materials" and " Powder Technology”.

The department organizes annually the "Materials Conference" to share the latest developments in the world of materials technologies and their applications, in collaboration with the Álvaro Alonso Barba Institute. In addition, it actively collaborates in other outreach activities such as Science Week or Researchers' Night.
