
Department of Mathematics, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid
The Department of Mathematics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid is a cross-disciplinary academic unit committed to excellence in mathematics education, primarily within the programs offered by the School of Engineering. It also plays a prominent role in key academic offerings such as the Bachelor's Degree in Applied Mathematics, the Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Computing, the Master’s Degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics, the Master’s Degree in Industrial Mathematics, and the PhD Program in Mathematical Engineering.
The Department’s research stands out for its international impact and strong interdisciplinary orientation, ranging from the development of fundamental mathematical knowledge to its application in other fields such as Physics, Biology, and related sciences. Research activities are organized around six official research groups: the Applied Mathematical Analysis Group (GAMA), the Differential Equations and Applications Group (GEDA), the Applied Mathematics to Control, Signals and Systems Group (GMACSS), the Interdisciplinary Group on Complex Systems (GISC), the Numerical Methods and Applications Group (GNMA), and the Group on Modeling, Numerical Simulation and Industrial Mathematics (MNSIM).

On May 9, we hosted the 2nd Applied and Computational Mathematics Competition to foster scientific interest in mathematics among pre-university students.

New Bachelor's Degree in Applied Mathematics
Starting in the 2025/26 academic year, the Department of Mathematics at UC3M is launching a new Bachelor's Degree in Applied Mathematics, a program taught entirely in English and designed to train professionals with a strong mathematical foundation and a focus on solving real-world problems in science, engineering, and economics.
