Open Science
Open Science (OS) is the collaborative, transparent and accessible approach to research, which implies a structural change in the way research is conceived and its results disseminated. Although it has traditionally focused on free and open access to scientific publications (known as Open Access), it is a much broader concept that also includes the openness of research data, methodologies and processes, as well as the involvement of citizens in an environment of Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI). It aims to make the results of publicly funded research accessible in digital format, both for the scientific community that produces them and for society at large, enhancing the reproducibility of science and the reusability of the results.
Open science seeks to extend the principles of openness to the entire research cycle, fostering exchange and collaboration from the outset, which implies a systemic change in the way research is conducted, science is built and innovation is enhanced.
