2nd Applied and Computational Mathematics Contest (CMAC)
On May 9th, the 2nd Applied and Computational Mathematics Contest (CMAC) took place. This initiative was promoted by the Vice-Rectorate for Students of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), and organized in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics.
The main goal of the contest is to foster scientific interest in mathematics and its many applications among pre-university students. It was open to students in their 4th year of Secondary Education (ESO) and Baccalaureate from any school in Spain.
The contest was designed to highlight the creative, cooperative, and non-competitive aspects of mathematics and science. Participating teams, made up of a maximum of five students from the same school and supervised by a teacher, faced a two-phase challenge. The first consisted of creating an original video on the topic “Mathematics and Logic.” The second phase, held in person, took place at the Leganés campus of UC3M’s School of Engineering, where the teams tackled various mathematical challenges.
