FAQ about language courses (40 hours)

Upon completion and successful passing of the course, a diploma is awarded indicating the total number of course hours, the level completed, and the grade obtained. However, this diploma does not have official status for the certification of the language level.

Depending on the course, the following discounts are offered:

• Former student of the Language Centre
• Members of the UC3M community
• Single payment for 6 modules (only applicable to the Annual Spanish Course)

* No other discount applies.

The payment methods available to pay for the course are: 

• By credit card or Bizum: through a link that we will send you to a secure payment platform. 
• Exceptionally, payment can also be made by bank transfer or by credit card at the Language Centre.

Each group corresponds to a specific level, schedule, format, and campus. Enrollment is carried out in one specific group only, so it is not possible to attend different groups.

We recommend that you review the cancellation policy for each course, which you will find published on the website of the course.

You must provide the instructor with documentation proving the scheduling conflict and obtain authorization from the Language Center coordination.

Attendance is mandatory for 80% of the total course hours. Absences exceeding 20% are not excused for any reason, including medical causes.

Any student who exceeds the maximum number of permitted absences for any reason may take the final course exam but will not receive the diploma certifying the credit equivalency.

The documents we provide from the Language Centre are proof of payment of the fees, as well as a confirmation of enrollment document. The confirmation of enrolment document will only be issued once the course, and the group have been confirmed by the Centre. 

The requirements for obtaining a visa depend on the relevant competent authority.

According to the regulations on the recognition of elective credits, you may apply for the recognition of a maximum of 3 elective credits for completing several different courses in the same language. 

Upon successfully completing a 40-hour language course, you will be awarded 2 elective credits, plus 1 additional credit if it is the second course in the same language and at a different level.

No, it is not possible; the course must be paid in full in a single payment.

According to the attendance and assessment rules, it is permitted to miss up to 20% of the total class hours of the 40-hour course for any reason, whether justified or not, including medical reasons.

We do not offer the possibility of taking trial classes.

Yes, to enrol in language courses, it is necessary to take a prior placement test, except if you have just completed a CDI course in the immediately preceding term.

However, in the registration form you will be able to indicate whether you have a qualification, which will be taken into account when assigning your level.

If you cannot switch to another group for your degree course, you must inform the language course instructor so they can take it into account. In this case, you will be asked to provide your degree class schedule.

If the lateness exceeds 10 minutes, they will be counted toward the total number of hours of absence allowed.

Our courses are intended for people who are over 18 years old or who will turn 18 during that academic year.

A discount is applied as long as you have previously taken a course at the Language Center (CDI), regardless of the language or the course type (semester-long, intensive, etc.). The amount of time that has passed between courses is not considered. 

For simultaneous courses, if it is your first time taking a course at the CDI, no discount will be applied.

It is not possible to enroll in a level lower than yours. The placement test ensures the group is homogeneous and that classes run smoothly.

No, language proficiency is not officially certified by completing any course.
