Accredited as a senior lecturer, the PI's line of research has, in recent years, focused on the study of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) within formal educational contexts. The latest project that she led, with important scientific and social impact in MIL research in recent years, was Alfabetización Mediática en los centros de secundaria ¿cómo se enseña a los adolescentes a consumir información? ALFAMEDESO [Media Literacy in secondary schools: How are adolescents taught to consume information?]. This project was funded by a Leonardo Grant from the BBVA Foundation and has resulted in a significant body of results in terms of dissemination and outreach of publications in leading scientific journals, book chapters and a report on the situation of media literacy in secondary schools published by the Ministry of Education. In addition, this project has an important transfer component that, together with the Maldita verification platform, has led to the development of a didactic guide aimed at secondary school teachers to work on MIL competences in the classroom. Furthermore, for the last three academic years and following the needs detected in secondary schools, the PI has been leading a teaching innovation project within the framework of the Learning and Service Methodology, where journalism students go to secondary schools in Getafe, Madrid to give workshops to students on the responsible use of the information that reaches them through different devices.
She has participated in R&D&I projects financed by competitive calls from public and private administrations and entities. In the field of research, she has completed a six-year term, presenting a total of 42 publications; 25 scientific articles, one monograph, the publication of a collective book, 14 book chapters and one scientific-technical report. Of the total scientific production in the form of articles, 10 articles appear in first tier journals and 15 articles in second tier journals. She also has articles published in journals included in the Arts & Humanities Citation Index or the Emerging Source Citation Index of the Web of Science. She is a member of the committee of experts of the Atresmedia Foundation, which aims to promote MIL in society, and is part of the international ALFAMED network of research on media skills that comprises more than 240 researchers from 19 countries and, in 2022, received first prize in the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Awards. Since 2021, she has participated in the work group set up by the Department of National Security within the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Government for "The fight against disinformation campaigns in the field of national security: proposals from society". She has supervised more than 30 master’s theses and co-supervised a doctoral thesis which was awarded Cum Laude. Finally, at the management level, she has been Deputy Vice Chancellor for Communication at the university from 2019-2023. She is Deputy Director of the Master's Degree in Agency Journalism UC3M-EFE and Academic Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Transmedia Journalistic Reporting and Documentary Journalism.
