The Telematic Engineering Department, formed by a team of about 100 people, has a long history of teaching and research activity, recognition and proven experience at national and international level in R&D projects, training and consulting in the field of Telematics. The Telematic Engineering Department is composed of two official research groups recognized by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid: the Telematic Applications and Services Group (GAST) and the Network Technologies Group (NETTEC).

The UNESCO Chair receives the Best Paper Award at IEEE DEMOcon 2025 with the paper “Enhancing Microcredential Design through Agentic Artificial Intelligence,” led by Rebiha Kemcha and co-authored by Carlos Alario-Hoyos and Carlos Delgado Kloos. DEMOcon 2025 took place in Boca Raton, FL, United States, from October 5 to 7, 2025. Full story (Spanish only).
Arturo Azcorra Saloña, Full Professor of the Department, has published the book “5G NR Explained”. The book is subject to copyright, but it is free of charge for training and education in both industry and academia. The book provides a clear and self-contained overview of the fundamental principles of 5G New Radio, covering topics such as frequency management, time and space usage in 5G, the structure of cellular networks, and user equipment configuration.
