Presentation
The goal of the Dual Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication is to train professionals in the use of journalistic language and the different formats of audiovisual culture (cinema, television and new media). The education is based on a system of theoretical and practical work with the aim of acquiring the skills necessary for creating content within the genres of news, entertainment and fiction.
UC3M offers students facilities equipped with state-of- the-art infrastructures and technologies such as newsrooms, radio studios, sets, multimedia rooms, etc. In addition, students have the opportunity to carry out internships at important companies in the communications industry.
At the end of the program, students will receive two degrees, one in Journalism and another in Audiovisual Communication, with the professional advantages that this entails.

The Erasmus programme permits UC3M first degree and post graduate students to spend one or several terms at one of the European universities with which UC3M has special agreements or take up an Erasmus Placement, that is a work placement or internship at an EU company. These exchanges are funded with Erasmus Grants which are provided by the EU and the Spanish Ministry of Education.
The non-european mobility program enables UC3M degree students to study one or several terms in one of the international universities with which the university has special agreements. It also has funding from the Banco Santander and the UC3M.
These places are offered in a public competition and are awarded to students with the best academic record and who have passed the language threshold (English, French, German etc..) requested by the university of destination.

Students who complete the dual degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication will be professionals qualified to perform any information job in any communication media and any format: written press, TV, radio, online and in the multimedia area.
In particular, the digital communication world of the XXI century demands:
- Professionals with an all-purpose education, who know how to prepare information adapted to the style and format requisites of any medium.
- Journalists with a general education, that is, professionals with criteria to recognize newsworthiness of an event or occurrence, no matter what area it takes place in.
- Journalists specialized in their areas, who must be experts in gathering and accrediting information, searching for resources and sources and writing news stories that interest and benefit the public, who go further in-depth in their specialized subjects of expertise, from the most generic (economics, social, political, international, local…) to the most specific (scientific and environmental, parliamentary, courts, sports, conflict situations and social violence –terrorism, abuse, religion, housing-…).
- Journalists whose sensitivity, the result of knowledge, them creators of media content that transmits general and specific knowledge, letting the public know and recognize the framework of realities that make up the world they have to live in.
- A specific aspect of the graduates’ professional profile is that of institutional and company communicators. This branch of expert communicators for Communication Offices of companies and institutions is important in the professional placement of our students.
Additionally, education in Audiovisual Communication is designed to offer four graduate profiles:
Audiovisual director, scriptwriter and producer
Professionals specialized in script and direction-production related tasks in the different audiovisual media-cinema, television, video, advertising, radio, computer graphics, and hypermedia- with knowledge of the technical processes and resources of expression. All-purpose professionals qualified to stage a project, prepare a work plan and draw up a prior budget.
Audiovisual producer and manager
Professionals who design, plan and organize human resources, technical and budgetary means for the production of audiovisual works in their various formats. They are qualified to direct and manage an audiovisual and multimedia production company.Visual and sound production and post production
Professionals that are experts in the design of all aspects linked to sound, image and graphics in the different phases of audiovisual production that also includes interactive environments oriented towards Internet, video games and digital environments.Researcher, teacher and expert in visual studies
Teachers in higher education or secondary school to teach subjects related to audiovisual communication and new technology. 1. Knowledge of Titles
K1 - To know the principles and values of democracy and sustainable development, in particular, respect for human rights and fundamental rights, gender equality and non-discrimination, the principles of universal accessibility and climate change.
K2 - To know basic humanistic contents, oral and written expression, following ethical principles and completing a multidisciplinary training profile.
K3 - Knowledge of the basics of journalistic information, the configuration of the media system, and society#s participative/communicational model in the access to journalistic information.
K4 - Know and use technological and communicational resources to produce, disseminate journalistic information and manage digital communities.
K5 - Know the processes of documentation, access to data and sources, including big data and artificial intelligence.
K6 - Know the main theories of media communication integrating interdisciplinary approaches and their application in the daily experience of students.
2. Skills of Titles
S1 - To plan and organize team work making the right decisions based on available information and gathering data in digital environments.
S2 - To use information interpreting relevant data avoiding plagiarism, and in accordance with the academic and professional conventions of the area of study, being able to assess the reliability and quality of such information.
S3 - Correctly present a subject or a speech following a logical order, providing accurate information and in accordance with established grammatical and lexical rules and norms.
S5 - Elaborates journalistic information in different media (press, radio, TV, Internet, communication centers), always based on polyvalent learning that enables the student to adapt to the multimedia journalistic requirements and control of technological-informative specifications to the different types of media.
S6 - Composes journalistic texts of an informative and interpretative nature with scientific method and in accordance with good professional practice, with social responsibility and for the benefit of citizens.
S7 - Develop journalistic content in various genres, on topics of general interest and public relevance, with a focus on gender violence and cultural or religious conflicts, through a critical and rigorous analysis.
S8 - Apply the fundamental principles of the various branches of specialized journalism, efficiently managing documentation processes and specific source systems to develop accurate and rigorous information.
S9 - Compose and ability to apply the informative component to graphic design and acquisition of infographic competencies, as well as basic IT knowledge for use in different techniques applied to journalism and to digital image treatment.
S11 - Demonstrates oratory and speaking skills in media adapted to the informative purpose. Particularly in audio, video and transmedia processes.
S12 - Evaluate the adequacy of editorial and advertising content in the news media, applying criteria of quality and editorial coherence as well as the corresponding legal and juridical principles.
S13 - Prepare journalistic information respecting pluralism, democratic principles and fundamental rights, applying ethical standards and the legal framework of freedom of expression.
S14 - Correct use of the language, specifically the Spanish language in its journalistic uses. Accuracy in oral and written expression through the communication media in professional facets as spokespersons.
3. Competences of Titles
C1 - To Know and be able to handle interpersonal skills on initiative, responsibility, conflict resolution, negotiation, etc., required in the professional environment.
C2 - To be able, through arguments or procedures developed and supported by themselves, to apply their knowledge, understanding and problem-solving skills in complex journalistic or specialized professional fields that require the use of creative and innovative ideas.
C3 - Ability to use both advanced theoretical and practical knowledge and demonstrated an understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects and working methodology of journalistic science with a depth that reaches the cutting edge of knowledge.
C4 - Have the ability to collect and interpret data and information on which to base their conclusions, including, when necessary and relevant, reflection on issues of a social, scientific or ethical nature in the field of journalism.
C5 - To be able to deal with complex situations or situations that require the development of new solutions in the academic, work or professional environment within the journalistic field.
C6 - Create journalistic business projects, managing human and material resources and all communication processes of companies and institutions.
